Plastic? We're changing it up.

Plastic.

Originally hailed as a super material - being flexible, long-lasting, and having infinite uses.

Trouble is, its long-lasting nature, coupled with ill-equipped recycling infrastructure and littering, mean that too often plastic packaging can become a pollutant, and an irresponsible use of the Earth's precious resources.

What does that have to do with Doisy & Dam you ask?

Well, two quite exciting things...

1. Our share bags are now recyclable! Yes you read that right, it's taken our Operations team a few years to crack, but finally, our Buttons, Ballers, D&Ds and Peanut D&Ds share bag can be recycled alongside other flexible packaging in large supermarkets. They now join our bar wrappers, our small packets, truffle wrappers, box and nuttercup trays as 100% recyclable

We are still working on the Good Eggs bag - so watch this space for 2023.

2. Since recognising that zero waste and refill shops wanted to stock us, we've been looking at ways in which we can give those stores the same delicious chocolate, but in bigger packaging, using less plastic. Again, no mean feat from our Operations team, but they created a whole new way of selling our chocolate, more directly from our suppliers - and skipping out the individual pieces of plastic - and selling in bulk by the kilo. Brilliant work team - thanks to you - in the last 12 months, you've saved 269,236 pieces of packaging. Nice.

So, what's next?

Well, we want to make sure every bit of the packaging is recyclable, so we're looking at the foil on our bars and our Good Eggs next. We'll also be releasing our first sustainability report - so we can transparently show you our targets and plans for improving our business from a social and environmental perspective. Plus, we hope in 2022 to carry out our first ever carbon footprint of the business, to inform us how and where we can cut down.

And what can you do?

Well, already by reading this you're educating yourself on the plastics issue, so thank you. You can ensure that whenever you consume, you're disposing of the packaging correctly, and where possible, minimising what you need to use.

But we don't need to tell you that, you've already got this in the (recyclable, reusable) bag.
