Happy Friday you chocolate loving lot. We hope you are settling into the year well and have in no way shape of form given up chocolate for Lent. We’ve been thinking a lot about superfoods recently, mainly for their chocolate enhancing properties over anything else, and did you know that black pudding is one of the superfoods to watch out for in 2016?!
So in light of this development we were thinking maybe a black pudding, fried bread and bacon dark choc combo…what do you think? ;)
Only joking! I think we’d rather stick with our good old superfriend Maca, or ‘Lepidium Meyinei’ for short :). It is a plant native to the high Andes in Peru similar in appearance to a rather large bottomed parsnip and it’s pretty darn great. The clever old Peruvians have been cultivating it for 3000 years already so we’re pretty late to the party really.
Maca is the shining star in our Maca, Vanilla and Cacao Nibs bar and has an earthy, nutty flavour to complement the trio perfectly. You are probably most aware of maca in its powdered form; lots of health nuts put it in everything from smoothies to energy bars (we like to put it in choc). In its powdered state Maca is rich in vitamins B,C and E, and provides plenty of calcium, zinc, iron and magnesium. These all help to reduce fatigue so you can say goodbye to your afternoon slump of doom.
Maca is also well known for its aphrodisiac properties… It helps balance hormone levels and increase fertility. This may explain why you feel a little more excited after eating a bar of our maca, vanilla and cacao nibs dark…
