We love nothing more than drooling over all the lip-smackingly goodlookin’ recipes you lot manage to conjure up using our choc and thought it was about time we helped you show your culinary talents to the world! So, in each newsletter, we are going to feature one of YOUR D&D inspired recipes…I guess you better get cooking*.

Our first recipe comes from the insanely talented Sophia Parvizi Wayne. Here’s what you need to know:



Sophia is a Junior International Athlete and Mental health Campaigner and is a huge advocate of living a healthy, balanced lifestyle, especially when it comes to food.

What’s your guilty food pleasure?
I don’t have a guilty food pleasure as no on should ever feel guilty about their favourite food. But I love Oreo brownies, peanut butter stuffed dates and good quality burger and sweet potato fries.

Ingredient you couldn’t live without?
I couldn’t live without dark chocolate and good quality butter

Favourite place to loll at the weekend?
On the running track in the sun or hanging out at a rooftop bar in the evenings with my friends.

Sophia’s pre-workout snack recipe: Date, Oat & Choc bars




Makes 10 bars

  • 1 1/4 cup oats
  • 1/3 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup flour-I used spelt but works just as well with plain flour, wholemeal and buckwheat
  • as much chocolate as you can possibly add, broken into chunks
  • 1 cup of good quality dates 
  • one cup of water
  • one egg * vegan eggs made using flaxseeds and water
  • 40g coconut oil/butter/unflavoured oil
  • 20g maca powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Pre-heat the oven to 180 degrees C/Gas mark 3. Grease a standard sized brownie tin.


1) Begin by adding all your dry ingredients together: oats, flour, baking powder, salt, ground cinnamon. If you’re adding our good old friend maca then now’s the time.

2) Next, using a food processor/Nutribullet blend half the dates with the water until it forms a paste. Then beat in the egg.



3) Melt the butter/pour your oil into the date mixture and beat until combined

4) Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and give it a good old mix

5) Throw in the rest of the chopped dates, copious amounts of D&D choc and anything else that takes your fancy (see suggestions below).

6) Pour all this superdelicious goodness into the tin and bake for 15 mins/until a knife comes out clean.



Some of Sophia’s fab optional extras

- mix in some nuts for those essential fats- walnuts or pecans make a fab addition ( try roasting them in the oven with a sprinkle of brown sugar or coconut palm sugar beforehand- trust me, it’s the bomb)

- make it super fruity and add in some dried apricots and raisins ( great for folate for us athletes)

The bars should also last up to a week in an airtight container but if you’re anything like us these will be demolished in the blink of an eye.
