We want to produce forward thinking products that excite and engage our choctastic customers offering them a better, more mindful choice.


We want to bring a new level of quality to the UK confectionary market. We take a huge amount of care over the quality of ingredients in our chocolate and believe in a balanced lifestyle, of which treats (especially chocolate) are one part.

B Corp

So, we have some pretty big news to announce….

Doisy & Dam has obtained its B Corp certification and become the 128th company in the UK (1,930th in the world) to restructure ourselves to use business as a force for good. Ed, I and the whole of our team are super excited about what this means for Doisy & Dam and our vision of how to grow a company that leaves behind more than it takes. We thought we’d put a little something together to explain why we’ve taken this step and how it fits in with our business.

What we’ve joined is a movement of like-minded, awesome companies who have all signed up to a Declaration of Interdependence which defines our purpose as the following:

1. That we must be the change we seek in the world.

2. That all business ought to be conducted as if people and place mattered.

3. That, through their products, practices, and profits, businesses should aspire to do no harm and benefit all.

4. To do so requires that we act with the understanding that we are each dependent upon another and thus responsible for each other and future generations.

Why have we become a B Corp?

The B Corp certification has given us an opportunity to hold ourselves accountable to social and environmental standards in an open, honest and transparent way.

What started as two friends with a passion to make better chocolate and a desire to be our own bosses has grown into a business that employs brilliant people and has a (very, VERY small, but still noticeable) impact on the world. As time has passed we’ve realised there’s a huge opportunity for us to do so much more.

We currently represent a whole 0.008% of the UK chocolate market (yes, we’re smashing it) but we have BIG ambitions. As such, we feel a responsibility to ourselves, the people who work for us and the lovely people who buy our chocolate to make sure that we’re held accountable for everything we do. We hope implementing this, whilst we’re still small, will enable us to evolve into a company which holds profit equal to its positive impact on the world.

So what can Doisy & Dam do?

Our Cocoa

Chocolate is an industry rife with social imbalances, murky supply chains and dishonest product descriptions. It’s also an industry in which scale is everything – the larger you are the better prices you can command, the more you can get under the skin of supply chains and get to the source of your raw materials.

We want to achieve the following:

  • Buy our cocoa directly from source by 2018 – We want a supply of cocoa that we can trace all the way down to the hectare it was grown and the date it was picked. This will enable us to guarantee sustainable supply of the most delicious chocolate in the world.
  • Own our own plantation in Colombia by 2020 – this will give us the ability to control the way our chocolate is produced and ensure that we’re supporting the long-term growth of our farmers by paying a fair price, supporting research and training for farmers and funding education for local families.

We want our customers to be able to enjoy our chocolate safe in the knowledge that our bars have been made in a way that does no harm.

Environmental Impact

  • Transport - Reduce our carbon footprint - We currently produce everything in the UK which enables us to minimise our transportation costs however there is more we can do. The biggest area we’d love to improve is our efficiency of shipping. Our plan is to try and record more closely our annual carbon footprint so we can understand how to try and reduce our impact as we grow.
  • Packaging - Make our packaging more sustainable - This is a more complicated issue - chocolate is fragile and sensitive to temperature which makes it tough to package in a way that’s both environmentally friendly, reasonably priced and sturdy. Currently, we pack our bars in cardboard cartons that are FSC certified and the bars are flow wrapped in recyclable plastic (we used to hand-foil them but as production increased it became unsustainable). We are looking at ways of making our flow wrap more sustainable with a longer-term goal of getting to the scale at which we can move back to foiling.


We have a small team of amazing people and we’re inspired by how passionate they are for the work we do.

We want to:

  • Engender an environment in which Doisy & Dam is synonymous with fulfilling work, a transparent and open culture and a shared stewardship of our impact goals.
  • Ensure that the experience of our employees, who spend at least 2,500 hours a year working for us, is positive, impactful and fulfilling.

We’re three years into our journey, we still feel like amateurs playing a professional game, but we’re learning every day and we share a passion for using business as a force for good. We want to build Doisy & Dam into a global chocolate company without losing sight of the values we believe in.

We feel honoured to be part of a movement that is changing the definition of work for thousands of people across the world and our underlying mission will be to play our part and to be the change we seek in the world.
